Nita Negrita: Blackface on Philippine Television

The last part of the video with the kiddie hands is part of the actual trailer for the Nita Negrita. Please note the visuals used to promote this Blackface TV show. So if we all stick to watching Nita Negrita, we would eventualy find some redemption in its storyline, ganun ba? But to what end? the idea of discrmination alone made by these visuals are damaging enough.

Another comment on the youtube video (well put BTW)

@dramacap The premise of the show denotes a considerable lack of sensitivity in portraying races. Blackface, the method of applying black makeup to a fair-skinned actor to portray a black-skinned character, is historically loaded with racist overtones. Furthermore, it may reinforce already existing stereotypes against black-skinned people. Barbie Forteza is very talented, but I do not agree with how she is forced to "fit" into her character via makeup. Why not cast a dark-skinned artist? by DonMichael

  1. You know, I was temporarily blocked by FB kasi, nagpost ako ng "report this page" sa lahat ng comments sa FB Fan page ng Nita Negrita just to show the management and the people who are patronizing it that Nita Negrita is not and will not be a good show because it promotes "racism". Thank you for this blog.

  2. This show is the most RACIST T.V. show I have ever seen. Your country is so beautiful why do the producers allow such a show to teach young people RACISM. If such a racist show was shown in the USA or Europe that portrayed Filpinos in such a negative way , how would your country feel ???

  3. Philippine people as commonly known today are actually MULATTO. Most of the entire world was settled originally by black people in ancient times, they were later displaced, either by being marginalized, killed, or assimilated by mixing by albino versions of themselves that had classed off and mated exclusively with their own kind until a race of pale people were created. These lighter people's later came and displaced the original darker people. Usually mixing with those that remained. Instead of keeping their mixed identities these people usually created a new fantasy identity that they were always light. But genetics doesn't allow the past to be totally erased, some still are born dark and sometimes with wavy or curly hair. A stigma placed on dark past history and identity means a people who want nothing to do with their dark past, thus a need to aggressively white wash and LIGHTEN everything. Hence the big industry for whitening creams and hair straightening around the mixed up world. It is really a sad thing that people are not proud of who they are. Diversity is very beautiful.
